Review: Kat Von D Lock It Foundation

The Kat Von D Lock It Foundation has been hyped about for a while now. Is it really all it claims to be?

Here is the break down of the foundations description from Debenhams.

RRP £27 for 30ml

"Creamy and pigmented, 'Lock-It' foundation is the only long-wear liquid formula we can count on to create a perfect canvas. With one pump it will even out discolouration, stop shine and hide blemishes, offering amazing coverage that's so long-wear you can go a full 24 hours without re-applying. Formulated with proprietary pigments plus an exclusive blend of siliconic elastomers which bind the formula, it will stay flawless, fade-free and transfer-proof. The bottle also features an innovative airless chamber design that prevents contamination, maintains rich consistency and ensures a fresh, precisely measured dose with every pump."

My Opinion

I purchased my foundation for £23 off depop in the shade light 25 warm which was about 90% full and my gosh I was so excited. My skin type is oily and the trouble I have with foundations is that they rub off my face throughout my day therefore this foundation just seemed perfect.

During my first application I made a mistake. I used wayyy too much foundation and applied it with a flat foundation brush and then I bounced my real techniques sponge to blend it out. This was too much product. Next time I applied it straight with my real techniques sponge and that's the best application for it as its too stiff to apply with a buffing/stippling brush.  Also I must add this foundation dries down pretty quickly therefore you need to work fast with it or do a section at a time.

The coverage was mind blowing! With one tap it covered everything. The colour was pretty dark and it oxidized and went more orange throughout the day, which was fine for me because I was wearing tan. However not a colour I'd name 'light'. And then the problems began. I always leave my foundation to set for a bit and in some cases dry down. With the Kat Von D however, it dried down to become very sticky! I always powder my foundations due to my oily skin so I thought no worries, I'll just use powder (Rimmel Stay Matte). But nope. Adding powder made it cake up really badly and it was still sticky!! Another day I tried to bake with the Coty Airspun Loose powder but that caked up even worse but didn't take away any of the stickiness! It's sticky, so what right?? Well when I tried to apply bronzer it made it took incredible patchy because the powder grabbed at the foundation. Then when I came back home, my face looked dry and cracked...

If you have dry skin you may as well forget about it! I really wanted to like it but after 3 tries I am sure I don't. Maybe I'll try it again however I just felt so much better once I came back to my normal foundation routine.
